Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) tries various way to establish a route to Buffalo. Efforts include various offers to the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railway as well as plans to build its own line via Bradford at a cost of five million dollars (determined impractical). (PRRT&HS) |

Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) contracts to operate Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad (aka Sizerville line) effective August 1, 1900. (PRRT&HS; Western New York Railroad Archive) |

PRR leases Western New York & Pennsylvania Railway for one year per July contract. Lease extended from year to year. This becomes part of the Buffalo and Allegheny Grand Division of the PRR. (PRRT&HS) |

1901 - Sept. 16 |
Pres McKinley’s six-car funeral train travels over PRR from Buffalo to Washington for a lying-in-state at the White House. (PRRT&HS). Pennsylvania boys were seen placing coins on the tracks in advance of the train and taking their newly flattened pennies, freshly minted mementos, from the rails after the funeral car’s passage.
