William R. Sizer dies at the age of 73. (Sizerville Cemetery)

1927, January

W. R. Sizer store completely destroyed by fire.  (History of Cameron County Pennsylvania)

 Frank Armstrong purchases property previously owned by the Sizers. (History of Cameron County Pennsylvania)

 Frank Armstrong  builds the Green Garden Hall and a gas station at the former location of W.R. Sizer’s store. (History of Cameron County Pennsylvania) Note: This building is still standing (2005) but has been converted to a private residence.

Octagonal prefabricated “camp” plus an addition for kitchen etc. erected on Armstrong’s land near the confluence of Cowley Run and Portage Creek. Main building was assembled from square panels that were constructed of tongue and groove boards affixed to a  square of 2” by 2” wooden framing.

1931 - June 10

The original American Legion swimming pool in Sizerville State Park dedicated and given to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

1933 - 1935

CCC camp S85 operated along East Cowley Run. Many of the camp structures now serve as park administration buildings.

1942 - July 18

THE 1942 Flood hits Sizerville as well as the rest of Cameron County.  The Railroad bridge over Cowley Run was washed out. For 1/2 mile south of the mouth of Cowley run almost all of the buildings between the train tracks and the Sinnemahoning  Portage Creek were destroyed. In that area, only a few buildings including the prefabricated camp built around 1929 and an ole farmhouse 1/2 mile downstream were elevated enough to be spared.

1960 - July 2

A new American Legion swimming pool was dedicated to replace the original American Legion swimming pool in Sizerville State Park. (Press article)
